Ministries

We are all called to service and are bestowed talents to minister to our fellow believers and the entire world, and there is a place for you. Whether it be ministering to the widows and orphans, visiting the sick, teaching children, giving to missions, providing meals, using your hands to build, or even simply praying, you are a needed part of the body of Christ. We pray that FPC is a place where YOU can be the hands and feet of Jesus.

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you

is a part of it." 1 Corinthians 12:27

Led by Brenda Brock

Lectio Divina is an ancient prayer discipline of reading scripture and listening for God's still small voice to speak through his word. It's a wonderful, peaceful way to escape a busy work day and simply be still in the presence of God.

Youth

"Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love and in purity. " - 1 Timothy 4 :12

The youth of FPC seek to glorify God through service projects, worship, and fun activities. It is our desire that others see Christ through our actions and words.

Congregational Nurture

The Nurture team is all about serving our members. Whether it be providing food for the sick, bereaved, and following the birth of a child; hosting congregational potluck meals; or maintaining our prayer list, our goal is to provide for and nurture the body of Christ.

Some of the activities and means by which we serve:

  • Provide visitors with information about our church and strive to make all feel welcome as they worship with us

  • Update the prayer list weekly and mail out Pause for Prayer cards

  • Provide grief packets and information for families following the death of a loved one

  • Host fellowship meals and potlucks.

  • Visiting the home-bound and those in nursing homes

Outreach

The Outreach Ministry Team's mission is to Step Up and Step Out in service to our community. We are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and there is no shortage of places to help and lend your talents!

Through our Parent’s Day Out program, we are able to provide a safe learning environment for babies through 4 years of age. Children are encouraged to learn through faith-based curriculum that includes storytelling, music, sensory activities, movement and games, service opportunities, outdoor play, Chapel time and much more.

The OMT is committed to working with the Huntsville Independent School District (HISD) to assist children and their families with food, hygiene/ toiletry supplies and, in some instances, clothing, furniture and other household items. In addition, the HISD Social Services Department identifies and recommends families for our annual Thanksgiving Basket Give-away.

Christmas is a special time for collecting gifts for senior adults.  Everything from baked goods to warm blankets, house shoes, and sweaters are collected and gifted to special seniors in our community.

We are especially excited about serving those in need and/or walk-bys needing a snack through our Blessing Box situated on the front lawn of the church.  Our Food Pantry and Blessing Box are supplied with the help of St. Stephen Episcopal Church and members of our church.

We support and have several church members who volunteer their time with The Gathering Place – a ministry designed to care for families affected by mild to moderate Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. This, too, is an ecumenical effort by First Baptist, First Methodist, First Christian, Faith Lutheran, and First Presbyterian churches.

Mission Day Camp is held in the summer for 1st – 8th graders.  The days are filled with outreach activities, worship, group building games, and alternative learning centers.  Children will have the opportunity to learn how to be more inclusive and compassionate towards others.

We are a Four for Four church – meaning that we promote and take an offering for the four denominational offerings.  These offerings provide disaster relief, peacemaking efforts and education, self-sustainable education, help for those suffering from war, injustices, hunger and homelessness, higher education, and support for families who have lived their lives supporting the church through various types of ministries.

We provide support for global outreach opportunities when they arise such as blankets and clean up buckets for flood areas, border ministry, Mercy Ships, medical supplies and medicine bottles to Third World countries, Heifer Project International, etc.

Always remembering that TOGETHER – WE CAN DO A LOT!

Stewardship

Stewardship is putting your faith into action as a grateful response to God’s love for the world and the self-giving of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are called to lives of simplicity, generosity, hospitality, compassion, and care for creation. Tithing is a primary practice of Christian stewardship and self-offering. We are accountable to God for how we use our material goods, spiritual gifts, and time in God’s service.

Worship

Our goal at FPC is to glorify our Savior in worship and in song. We seek to do this in everything we do and we offer many avenues to worship and praise all that He has done for us. We offer one worship service on Sunday mornings that could be described as a historic faith with contemporary sermons that apply to everyday life. The service is livestreamed simultaneously on Facebook and YouTube

Music Ministry

Our music ministry strives to glorify God in all that we do, whether it be choral or instrumental offerings. If you would like to be part of our music ministry, including if you are a music student at SHSU looking to intern in our chancel choir, please email the church to get in touch with Music Director Mary McCreary.

Spiritual Formation

Spirituality is simply the capacity for a spiritual life – the human capacity to receive, reflect, and respond to the Spirit of God.  Spirituality points to a path – to choices of belief, value commitments, patterns of life, and practices of faith that allow Christ to be formed in us.

Walking the Labyrinth, Silent Retreats, Family Table, Contemplative Services, Advent and Lenten Studies, and Weekly Lectio Divina prayer meetings are just some of the ways we seek grow in our spiritual walk with Christ.

Our mission is to know Christ and to make Him known.
